What is Joining in Motion?
Joining in Motion aims to bring people together and provide training and personal development from a cultural perspective to address the various barriers preventing individuals from entering the workforce, such as skills gaps and low confidence. We will collaborate with local partners to offer a range of services, including:
• Self-management programmes based on the personal development plan.
• Asset-based community approaches that focus on the strengths and abilities of individuals.
• Online support groups for individuals to connect with others in similar situations and share experiences and advice.
• Volunteering opportunities for individuals to gain valuable skills and experience within the consortium and Manchester Volunteer Centre.
We will work with participants to create an individual action plan tailored to their needs and goals.
Our Activities Aim To:
• Empower people to take charge of their health and wellbeing.
• Increase their knowledge, skills, and confidence to cope with challenges.
• Improve their health and wellbeing outcomes and reduce social isolation and loneliness.
• Support their progression to volunteering opportunities and employment.
We will promote the project using our extensive network of partners across Manchester, Manchester City Council, One Manchester, our social media platforms, and networking events.
Project Delivery
The project will deliver two sessions a week over 12 months and will be promoted through offline and online/digital marketing, such as social media, printing, and designing leaflets. We will also provide an evaluation report to use the lessons learned to feed into future projects such as Reaching Communities, building on previous projects to develop a sustainable model of delivery.
The project will achieve the following:
- Providing training in life skills of real-life application for learning to young people/adults at risk with mental health-related problems to promote social inclusion and promotion of mental health awareness for hard-to-reach individuals.
- Providing voluntary work experience in sales, gardening, administration, logistics, and support for those looking for paid employment to improve physical and mental health.
- Increasing opportunities for and valuing volunteering, we encourage community members to contribute their time and skills, fostering a sense of ownership and participation.
- Actively promoting equality and community cohesion helps to build a more inclusive society where diversity is celebrated, and everyone feels they belong.
- Raising people’s aspirations in education, employment, living standards, and social interaction which can motivate people to pursue their goals and improve their quality of life.
