Step and Move Project (STAMP) Project Overview

The project consists of a holistic and interdisciplinary programme that will help young people participate in various exercises, movement and dance, sports participation, and capacity building.  The programme aims to increase the confidence and resilience of young people at risk of exclusion and antisocial behaviour. The activities will aim to:

  • Increase the physical fitness and mental health of young people.
  • Improve young people’s confidence.
  • Engage with the communities to lead a more proactive life.

Project sessions

The sessions will run three times a week for two hours at our local park with access to multi-use courts and a running area.

The project will develop young people’s health and well-being of young people through planned exercise and routines to complement the other after-school activities and diversionary activities.

This will also build on our pilot project delivered over the past nine months that will work with up to 60 young people ages 18-24 to help improve their physical, and emotional health and well-being.

Programme’s aims

The programme aims to:

  • Create an environment in which individual differences and the contributions of all our beneficiaries are recognised and valued.
  • Young people have a positive mindset about their lives and sports opportunities.
  • Young people will demonstrate changes they have made to their lives through having increased self-confidence.
  • Young people will have demonstrated increased social skills and well-being.

This will be achieved by developing partnerships with local sports venues and local clubs to reach those young people who are least likely to engage in sports and exercise and the long-term health benefits.

Link with Mentoring and employability programme

The programme will also be linked to our Mentoring and employability programme. This will enable young people to be supported by Mentors with sporting and non-sporting backgrounds to continue motivating and guiding our young people to pursue their sporting goals within an established team.

The weekly activities will help young people to develop transferable soft skills that can be applied in other areas of their lives or future career goals. This includes team-building skills, improved communications skills, increased confidence, and motivation, and being focused and driven to achieve their educational and career aspirations whether in sports or the wider world of work.

Project Activities

The project activities will consist of the following:

  • Exercise and Fitness
  • Movement and Dance
  • Sports Participation and Capacity Building
